  1. I don’t know this man or know anything more about this incident except for this video. I trust he will get his day in court and justice hopefully will prevail (ultimately we know it will).

However, it would seem to me that Matthew 5:41 would come into play here. Along with:

    Romans 13:1-7
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience. …

    Titus 3:1 ESV
Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work,

    Matthew 5:41
If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.

That is if they ask to look in his trunk he should offer to show them his glove box also.

Then again, maybe I’m too much of a pacifist.

  2. Well, I would have to think about this… I believe that I would probably submit for the reasons that you are stating. But, if the Constitution is a covenant of the people to the government the authority at one level rested with the Pastor. When Paul addressed the High Priest in Acts 23 he spoke a man he believed had exceeded his authority in one way, but changed when he realized who he was. I don’t think submitting to rulers means that you submit to everyone who claims to be a ruler. Which is what the officers were doing, claiming an authority they did not have.

Oh, and you are a wimpy pacifist. 🙂

  3. Get used to it. The “church” in eastern Europe had to endure this and worse.
The Constitution was thrown out long ago because no one spoke up about the gub’ment overstepping it’s authority. I’m like Kevin, I woul;d have let him look in the trunk and the glove box, then demanded an apology. There would be H— to pay if it were me.
Our Constitution says that we have the right to refuse and question what the gub’ment is doing. Al is right. Somebody needs to go to jail and it’s not the preacher.

  4. Update:
    Thomas More Law Center
    Wednesday, April 15, 2009

ANN ARBOR, MI – The Thomas More Law Center announced today that is has filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the Department of Homeland Security demanding to know the basis for their recent intelligence assessment targeting as “rightwing extremists” those who oppose abortion, gun control, lax immigration laws, and a myriad of other policies supported by President Obama’s administration. The Law Center filed its request after consultation with conservative talk show host Michael Savage.

The Department of Homeland Security’s document in question, “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment” was released to law enforcement agencies throughout the country. Of particular concern was the report’s singling out of military veterans as vulnerable to rightwing extremism.

Richard Thompson, President and Chief Counsel of the Thomas More Law Center stated, “This is not an intelligence report but a diatribe against those who oppose the policies of the Obama administration. It is a declaration of war against the American people and our constitution. It is a prelude to extreme gun control legislation and hate speech laws targeting Christian churches and others who oppose abortion and same sex marriage. The federal government should be focusing its attention on the 35 radical Muslim compounds in the U.S. training its followers on how to kidnap and kill Americans.”

Rob knows, “Two years ago, I said the true church would be underground.” I stand by that assement.
