Debate the Last

Senators McCain and Obama just got done. I must write a substantive post on this soon because there are just so many things that must be said…and I must be the one to say them…I must. But for now let it be said that Obama is going to be elected president because he wants to be the president. For real. He actually believes his stuff. McCain is just trying to get elected. Big difference.

I’m not suggesting that an Obama presidency is a good thing. I think it is not. It is a headlong dive into socialism. But I do think it is a done deal. Obama looked poised, confident and convinced of his mission. McCain did not. None of this speaks to the substance of what they said, just what is going to get one of them elected.

I’m still voting no.

(And for what it’s worth, McCain doesn’t flag the spell checker…Obama does)

  1. Rob, I totally agree with your summation of the debate. These things aren’t about the issues as much as they are about the performance. As Mark Shields of PBS said tonight, Obama is eerily cool and collected–he exudes the kind of confidence and surety that Americans crave after 8 years of spasmodic mouth dumps and shifty tom-foolery behind the lectern and in front of the camera.

    That is exactly right.

And, Joe the Plumber?! What in the world was that all about?! That is what people are going to remember about this debate. I kept saying to myself, “But I’m not Joe. But I’m not a plumber.”
