… the Lord’s Supper
But when Jesus knew it (that his death was plotted), He withdrew from there. And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all. 16 Yet He warned them not to make Him known, 17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:
18 “Behold! My Servant whom I have chosen,
My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased!
I will put My Spirit upon Him,
And He will declare justice to the Gentiles.
19 He will not quarrel nor cry out,
Nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets.
20 A bruised reed He will not break,
And smoking flax He will not quench,
Till He sends forth justice to victory;
21 And in His name Gentiles will trust.”
10 Mercy and truth have met together;
Righteousness and peace have kissed .
The death of Christ was justice going forth to victory. For the Church the Lord’s Supper is the victory dinner. Justice has dealt its blows and in them we have received our kiss. This meal is the promise of God that your life has been judged in Christ and God seals his justice over your life. The Spirit witnesses with your spirit that you are children of God and you are bound to the Son of God, innocent in Him, and the Father delights to give you good things in this bread and wine. So come to The Judge and receive your kiss before dinner and then taste and see that the Lord is good.
