We have heard this morning that the Lord Jesus Christ is the firstborn from the dead, having been raised up on the cross in death and then having been laid down in the tomb and then having been born anew from the womb of the earth to live again. Our Lord said, “No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Because He died and rose again, whoever believes in Him has eternal life – not in the future but today, not as a possibility but as a present possession. We are alive in Him and share in His resurrection life right now. He feeds us and nourishes us together as His body when we come to His table to receive His body and blood. He continues to share His life with us as he raises us up to heaven with Him to feed us by faith.
So come to the table boldly. It is the table He has set for you and raised you up to sit at. Never think that there is some better and more spiritual way to grow up in your life in Christ than by the Word and the bread and the cup. Here your Lord feeds you and shares His life with you, which you will share for all eternity, unto His glory and honor.
So come, you saints of His, come and receive the gift of God for your souls. Come and be nourished in eternal life on Him who rose again for your life.
Come, taste and see that the Lord is good.
